FINAL MARKING: PROJECT 3 AND FOLIO

Hi all,

Please upload your project 3 work based on the review you got during the jury session. DO upload your ENTIRE work till Tuesday. Don't forget that your folio consists of 15% marks so make sure that you present your designs is the best possible manner and compose your blogsite.

Also check that your drawings are technically correct showing ALL the doors, windows, openings, level differences, overhead projections (dotted) and clear graphics to indicate solid walls. Check the naming of rooms/spaces in plans and sections and other details like scale, north, section line etc.

Please include all the required drawings and photographs of the model as per the requirements listed in the previous post. That means you need to include SITE ANALYSIS, CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT, CHOSEN ARTIST AND HIS BACKGROUND, CASE STUDIES OF ART GALLERIES/ INSPIRATIONS plus all other requirements. Site analysis should also reflect in your context model showing the nearby buildings, their roof heights, awnings etc.

FINAL SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Hi all,

For tomorrow's submission and final presentation please follow the assignment outline very carefully.

DRAWING REQUIREMENTS

1. Site plan showing the art gallery and its relationship with adjacent buildings and the street. 1: 500 or 1: 1000
This should be supplemented by site analysis and your overall concept.
IN ADDITION PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR NARRATIVE (SELECTED ARTIST) AND CASE STUDIES AND SHOW YOUR INTERPRETATIONS THROUGH YOUR DRAWINGS, SKETCHES, TEXTS, VIEWS.

2. Floor plans and sections (including the outdoor courtyard). 1: 100
Make sure that the drawings are rendered and poched.

3. One room in plan and section (rendered, showing the quality of light in the room, and with at least one art object in it). 1: 50
This needs to show the details of windows, furniture and should be beautifully presented.

4. Sectional, architectonic model. 1: 100
Materiality, craft and depiction of utmost importance. Site model required for context study.

5. Interior perspective vignettes showing the main sequence of spaces.
These should best explain the quality of spaces in terms of experience.

PRESENTATION DETAILS

We will start the presentations at 2.15 pm. Please start putting up your work as soon as you come to the class. Be prepared with pins, tapes etc. We will follow the same order as in your attendance record/my blogsite (alphabetically).

Each person will get 15 minutes to present. Please design your talk based on the objectives of the project and how you have achieved them. Be concise and clear and specific.

Please do the site visit before the studio on coming Wednesday (13th of May 2009). Collect all relevant data pertaining to your selected site with the aim of establishing a connection with site and the context. It can be recorded in the form of a visual diary based on your personal experiences, observations, associations and interpretations.

1. Site measure and other site conditions like accessibility, slope, vegetation, views, light etc.

2. Context and precedent study: Adjoining buildings, their details and characteristics which may affect your design.

3. Streetscape analysis/Facade studies: Important features like shop canopies, awnings, shop fronts, entries, displays based on serial vision.

4. Possible ways of siting your building with location of entrance.

5. Possible relationship of your building with the context.

We will focus on site analysis and concept development in the studio. Please get your visual diary plus site drawings, tracings, photographs and parti sketches for case studies of museums.

BEFORE THE FINAL SUBMISSION:
POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED......

1. NARRATIVE: Your single line narrative indicating the following components:
- character, his physical attributes
- an indication of the nature of space (eg. tower, hut, hamlet, bunker, studio, cave, shed, pavillion, den, castle, abode, escape, temple, box....and so on)
- the activity: exaggerated to a level of passion.....so the architectonics will emerge for and enable activity to its limits....

2. SITE SELECTION AND SITING
Please select a tangible site with specific characteristics and features like a forest, on a beach, within a mountain slope or hill, on the top of a cliff, in a valley, in a desert, in a crowded city, in a pristine garden, a part of a complex, along a lake..... with some reference to the climatic quality like hot, cold, tropical, pleasant, dry, humid and its nature: sloping/flat/rocky/stepped/sunk etc....
Also consider the siting: how your buildings sits onto the site....whether it is embedded completely/partially, raised, suspended, braced, tucked, projecting, cantilevered.........

3. REPRESENTATION:The clarity of representation of the above characteristics through beautifully rendered drawings and a well crafted model....do not limit yourself by paper/cardboard/balsa...think beyond....and be creative...

4. Focus on the quality of light and its entry, use of colors and textures, inbuilt elements, landscape features to modulate the space.

Hi all,

Hope you are enjoying window explorations! For the studio on this Wednesday 29th April, we will be having a pin-up session in the class. Please be ready with the following:

- Your selected painting and your narrative.
- Study models: to scale showing the material which you propose to use. You may want to try out more than one model to experiment with materials.
- Poche' drawings: plans, sections/sectional elevations (interior details), site plan showing the siting which best express the materials selected. You may also want to include idea sketches or concept drawings.

Please make sure that you work hard for the upcoming studio and get the complete set of drawings and models so that you will have a fruitful session before next week's final submission.

Dear All,

Well done! Lots of hard work in Project1 reflected through your presentations and model. Hope you have had a refreshing break and are all geared up for the next exploration.

Before starting with the new project, please upload clear images of your scanned drawings (Parti and Poche') and model photographs which best express your understanding of the villa....with the process which led you to the final outcome. Graphics are of a great value here! If your models and drawings are in the exhibition, please make it a point to document your work there. Remember the technique of using light source and dark background to accentuate your models.

See you at the studio on Wednesday -Week 5...Do come prepared with your collection of domestic interiors of the 17th century Dutch and Edward Hopper's paintings and some research into the relationship between the inside/outside/the role of the window.

Dear all,

Good start in week one! Please send me you blog addresses those who haven't sent yet.

We will have a quick presentation session at the begining of studio next week. Please be prepared with sketches and parti diagrams to generate a discussion. Each group will have 10 minutes to present their villa. Get all the relevant information, drawings, articles pertaining to your villa to proceed working on poche diagrams in the studio.

And be equipped with soft pencils, yellow tracing roll, scales, pins, sticky tapes etc. to make the most of our studio.
